Silver was advised to shelve the product, but he was convinced that a breakthrough had been made, and began searching for someone within 3M who would back him. In 1974 Arthur Fry, a colleague from the chemical engineering division, attended one of Silvers seminars but like everyone else failed to see a marketable use for the adhesive.
Inspiration finally struck in church, when Fry found himself struggling to keep his place in his hymnbook without his paper bookmarks falling out. The memory of Spencers…
