Manchester Uniteds interest in a new centre-back means one name was always destined to crop up.
Jose Mourinho was still in charge when interest in Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly first emerged.
Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis claimed the Red Devils had a £95million bid rejected from United for the Senegalese star back in 2018.
“[Jose] Mourinho wanted him, we rejected £95 million,” De Laurentiis told Corriere del Mezzogiorno at the time. “But now it’s impossible that he leaves Napoli.
