Extending the stamp duty holiday until the end of 2021 would unlock 100,000 extra home sales and help stave off a market slump that could hammer Britain’s economy, new research shows.
Prolonging the tax break for another nine months would boost transactions by around 10pc this year, according to a study by estate agent Hamptons International – pushing sales up by 100,000 to a total of 1.2 million.
The surge would help shore up economic growth as the country struggles to recover from the Covid crisis.
