A drug company accused by the head of the NHS in England of trying to price-gouge taxpayers has backed down and agreed to keep selling a bipolar drug after striking a deal allowing modest price rises.
Essential Pharma had planned to withdraw the leading brand of lithium carbonate from the market in a move that would have cost the NHS as much as £15 million a year.
